Contrary to dominant narratives, our research demonstrates that public aspirations align with the goals of ecological and social transformation.

To gather and prioritize these aspirations in mobility policies, the Mobile Lives Forum launched its Citizen Forum in 2021. This initiative addresses all types of travel: work-related mobility, leisure trips, and imposed trips that are non-work-related (e.g., health, administrative, grocery shopping, etc.).

This national debate platform brings together 120 citizens, divided into groups of 30, across four regions with diverse economic and demographic dynamics (Île-de-France, dynamic areas, overseas territories, and areas labeled as declining). Participants are selected to reflect the diversity of French society in terms of age, gender, education level, living environment, and travel practices related to the chosen themes, ensuring a wide range of experiences and perspectives.

Over three days, citizens from each region come together to discuss the role of mobility in their lifestyles and to define key citizen-driven objectives for the future.

This approach enables the Mobile Lives Forum to anchor its political proposals in the real aspirations of the population.

Mobility

For the Mobile Lives Forum, mobility is understood as the process of how individuals travel across distances in order to deploy through time and space the activities that make up their lifestyles. These travel practices are embedded in socio-technical systems, produced by transport and communication industries and techniques, and by normative discourses on these practices, with considerable social, environmental and spatial impacts.
